Posted by Carolyn on Sep 01, 2010

A beachfront film festival lying between World Heritage Rainforest, The Great Barrier Reef and island studded Coral Sea is about to begin. A program of films, discussions, workshops and events will entertain and inspire us to protect the natural world we live in. Quirky stories, incredible individuals and inspired communities are celebrated at Australia’s Number 1 Sustainability Film Festival  – September 17-19. The Mission Beach Film Festival presents a diverse program of films and sidebar programs that places a focus on what our world could be if we change our expectations and what the world could be if we don’t.

Also featured at the festival is the Cassowary Coast Short Film competition and stills photography exhibition.  www.missionbeachfilmfestival.com.au

The who, what, when and where of Mission Beach.

Spring is the perfect time to visit Mission Beach – a natural mid way point between Townsville and Cairns. Mission Beach is made up of four beach villages linked by 14 kilometres of wide golden beach set in an unspoilt natural environment. A blend of sophisticated eateries, boutiques and art galleries nestle against lush tropical rainforest. Mission Beach reminds us of how beautiful little beachside towns can be, blending vibrant art and culture with unique tourism attractions.
It’s just under two hours south from Cairns to Mission Beach.  Dunk Island and Bedarra Island lie less than 5 kilometres offshore from Mission Beach.

The four villages of Mission Beach – South Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach, North Mission Beach and Bingil Bay offer an excellent array of accommodation, from luxury resorts and holiday homes to secluded rainforest retreats and superbly appointed B & Bs. Romantic getaways, family holidays, birdwatchers, backpackers, adventure travellers, campers and caravanners are all catered for. Mission Beach also offers activities ranging from eco-friendly and environmental tours to extreme sports such as tandem skydiving and white water rafting for adrenaline junkies.  Enjoy golf, kayaking, cassowary spotting, reef and estuary fishing, rainforest hikes, jet skiing, crocodile spotting, picnicking on one of the surrounding Islands, bird watching, market shopping, bike riding, swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.
