Just can’t wait to get on the road again.
Pack up the car, Mum, Dad and the kids and head up the New South Wales coast along the Pacific Highway. Sound like a familiar scene to you? This type of holiday heralds the annual January season for many families and has done so for three generations or so. It certainly reminds me of my childhood.

Driving holidays are part of Australia’s culture. First it was the yearly pilgrimage to the favourite camping spot or caravan park. Then came holiday flats or even building your own holiday home. Same spot each year. Life was simple.

Nowadays of course, roads are much improved and driving times between destinations have shortened considerably. Hence, the choice of destinations and experiences is immense.  All gamut of accommodation is available. From unique holiday houses, boutique hotels and guesthouses, lighthouse accommodation, B&Bs to name a few.

To help independent travellers make their choices four Regional Tourist Organisations have banded together with a great tourism marketing initiative called The Legendary Pacific Coast. This collaboration between Central Coast Tourism, Hunter Tourism, Mid North Coast Tourism and Northern Rivers Tourism will promote road journeys between Sydney and Brisbane.

Known as the Legendary Pacific Coast Project, the campaign began earlier in the year, supported by $570,000 in government funding. It seeks to create a new ‘brand’ for the road as a place where personal memories and legendary experiences are waiting to be created by today’s travellers. The aim is to encourage and help the travelling public to get on that road and to bring their dollars with them. The theme will be see where it takes you.

The Legendary Pacific Coast is one of Australia’s greatest drive holidays. With the combination of magnificent coastline and spectacular hinterland on either side of the Pacific Highway from Sydney to Brisbane, this route is full of all the good things in life. It’s a touring destination that embraces the open road and freedom.
